As cable-TV service providers have evolved to multiple systems operators (MSOs), they now rely on fiber optics to deliver broadband voice, video, and data services.

As their transport and broadband access networks begin to mirror those of their telco competitors, cable MSOs have begun to require similar fiber-optic testing capabilities. OTDRs and optical cable testers are becoming common tools. Network monitoring also remains an important requirement.
